Saturday, April 23rd, 2016 -- 8:22 AM
Highway 73 north of Thorp is now open. The highway was closed on March 23 when a culvert began to collapse. The failed steel culvert was placed in 1984 is approximately 8 feet high and 12 feet wide. A branch of the Eau Claire River flows through the culvert. The culvert’s floor has buckled approximately one and one-half feet. There is about four feet of water flowing through the culvert.
The Taylor County Highway Department replaced the failed culvert, as well as another just to the north of the Eau Claire River culvert that was also showing signs of deterioration and the highway is now open for use again.
