Clark County Board Discusses Administrative Coordinator Position, Part 2
Thursday, April 21st, 2016 -- 10:20 AM
-The Clark County Board of Supervisors discussed their resolution regarding the designation of a Temporary Administrative Coordinator and, eventually, hiring a full time Administrative Coordinator. This discussion began due to an opinion from, not only the state Attorney General, but a general consensus from county committees including personnel, executive and more. There are also legal concerns surrounding what Clark County currently does, which is to have the County Chair serve as the Administrative Coordinator. Clark County’s Corporation Counsel offered three alternatives the county board could follow, which included hiring a County Executive, hiring a County Administrator or hiring an Administrative Coordinator. He recommended hiring the Administrative Coordinator as the best option for the county.
The Corporation Counsel also wanted to make it clear that the Coordinator would have no specific duties until the board established what those were. He stated that the County Board would focus on making policy that’s in the best interest of the county, the department heads and their employees would create goals to enforce those policies and the Coordinator would just help them work towards those goals. He said a health relationship with an Administrative Coordinator would include a little push and pull between the Coordinator and the County Board, Committees and Departments.
