Representative Bob Kulp's Listening Session in Neillsville, Part 3

Tuesday, April 5th, 2016 -- 1:33 PM

-Representative Bob Kulp appeared in Neillsville for a listening session on Thursday along with his guest Senator Terry Moulton.

The two appeared at the American Legion. There were only a few people in attendance, but they covered several topics. The next topic was about broadband coverage in rural areas.

Terry: "The problem right now with technology is that we don't have that broadband infrastructure."

Bob: "At the last meeting we were at a couple weeks ago, we were talking about how technology is going with regards to broadband because you know it's the thing that separates the "haves" from the "have nots," if you will, and it will continue to do that. They were talking about 5G technology. You've heard of 3G, 4G, 5G, basically, it stands for generation. AT&T, I guess, is experimenting with 5G technology in Austin, Texas and there's already a city in Japan that has rolled out 5G technology. It's wireless, which means you don't have to be connected to it with a fiber cable. But it's 1,000 times faster than 4G."

"Now what worries me a little bit about building out an infrastructure, we're actually putting fiber into our building in Stratford, spending a really big sum of money as a commercial entity to put fiber in, just because we deem it so necessary. What kinda worries me is we're building a dirigible over here when we've got a 747 over here that's just about ready to be complete. But that doesn't mean we can lay off of building our old airship in hopes that we're going to be getting the big, flashy new plane over here."

Coming up on Tuesday Wednesday, Bob and Terry will give their thoughts on the recent Tomah Veteran’s Hospital scandal.
