Clark County Board of Supervisors Approve New County Compensation Plan

Monday, April 4th, 2016 -- 10:22 AM

-The Clark County Board of Supervisors approved the county’s new compensation plan after three hours of discussion at their meeting last week.

This new compensation plan had been in the works for over 3 years and it was decided that it was needed to provide the county with an accurate depiction of rates and job descriptions, provide analysis of positions both internally and externally and provide a revised compensation band that is reflective of the competitive market and is more equitable. For example, an employee in the forestry department would have the same job title and similar duties as an employee in the highway department, but the highway department was being paid more. So, this study was done to try and better classify the employees and give them all equitable pay.

Once the study was done, the plan was drawn up and a pay scale was provided. This pay scale would begin at the starting/training range which was 80-88% of the mid-market value. From there, after 18 months, they would increase from Step 1, which would be 90% of mid-market value all the way up to Step 6, which is 108% of the market value. Finally, they would have the further option to increase three more times after 10, 15 and 20 years in the position from 112% to 120%. The starting/training range would be used for recruiting purposes and every step increase up to the 10-20 year mark would be for retention.

For example, a Maintenance Technician at ADS would have a starting range of $15.02-16.52. Their steps would have them at $16.89 increasing to 20.27. And they would have the potential to increase further after 10 years, at $21.02, to 20 years at $22.52.
