Election Day in Wisconsin Tomorrow, Voter I.D. Law in Effect
Monday, April 4th, 2016 -- 9:28 AM
-Tomorrow is the election primary in Wisconsin and the Voter I.D. law is in effect, so you’ll need to show your I.D. at the polls. The biggest race on the list includes the presidential primary. Republicans Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and John Kasich continue to battle for enough delegates to cinch the nomination during the Republican Conference. Bernie Sanders continues his bid for the Democratic nomination against his rival Hillary Clinton. Another big race for Wisconsin is the Justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court race against Joanne Kloppenburg and Rebecca Bradley.
There are many local races happening as well. All 29 of the county board seats are up for election, but not one board member running has any competition. In fact, there are a few seats that are open, but no one is running for them. An example would be the seat held by Roger Ashbeck who passed away in November. Besides the county board, there are other races in communities throughout Clark County that have open seats with no one running or uncontested races. There are no contested races for the board seats open on the Neillsville School Board or the Common Council. Greenwood has an open school board seat as well.
One of the bigger items for Greenwood residents is whether they should pass a referendum to exceed the revenue limit. In year one, the amount would be $850,000 and drop to $750,000 for the next 4 years. The mil rate would be $11.27 and without it, the district could see a total deficit of over $4 million by the 2020-21 school year. It was also stated at informational meetings that if the referendum were to fail, the district would need to make serious cuts. However, it should be noted that if the referendum passes, the district would still see close to a $800,000 deficit by 2020-21, so they’d still need to be financially responsible over the next 5 years.
