Clark County Health Department Recognizes "Friend of Public Health"

Monday, April 4th, 2016 -- 9:26 AM

-What is Public Health? Public health is concerned with protecting and improving the health of entire populations through a variety of strategies. Populations can be as small as a family unit or as large as an entire county. It has been said that Public Health connects all of us; we are all impacted by the public’s health. A healthy county can only be realized through the support and involvement of community and faith-based organizations, elected officials, worksites, health care organizations, schools, and residents.

During the first week in April each year, the American Public Health Association (APHA) brings together communities across the United States to observe National Public Health Week as a time to recognize the contributions of public health, raise awareness about public health and prevention, and highlight issues that are important to improving our nation’s health.

In support of national Public Health Week and the mission of the Clark County Health Department, based on criteria used to review those nominated, we are proud to recognize Mary Sladich for her significant contributions in the community.

Mary is often described by others as being a very active and appreciated member of her community. This is true in both her professional and personal life. Over the last 40+ years, Mary has dedicated a significant amount of time to improving the lives of others, specifically those who are elderly and/or disabled within Clark County. She oversees the Clark County elderly food pantry, coordinates Meals on Wheels deliveries, leads the Living Well with Chronic Conditions program, assists the Clark County Health Department with flu clinic scheduling and promotion of the shingles vaccine program, coordinates nutrition sites, is the President of St. Mary’s Parish Council of Catholic Women, and delivers Meal Ministry to the homebound. Mary also facilitates the Alzheimer’s Family and Caregiver grant, monthly Alzheimer’s Family and Caregiver Support Program, annual Alzheimer’s Caregiver Conference, Medication Management Program, and bi-annual Change of Seasons (community yard cleanup) event.

The Clark County Health Department wants to thank Mary for helping to support the health and wellness and enhance the quality of life for Clark County residents.

We also want to thank every organization, coalition, and community member who has collaborated on efforts to promote health in Clark County.
