Insurance Discussion at Neillsville City Council Meeting
Friday, March 25th, 2016 -- 10:05 AM
-The Neillsville City Council had a lengthy discussion about the city’s insurance carrier during their Tuesday meeting. The city needs to renew its property, liability and worker’s comp insurance by April 1st. They were presented information from two carriers, EMC of Tricore Insurance and the Wisconsin League of Municipalities from Spectrum Insurance. The League’s insurance was more expensive with a $21,000 difference between their quote and EMC’s, but the city went with the League because they’ve been using them and it’s been successful for them.
It wasn’t an easy decision, however. Several councilmen stated they would have like to see the information sooner to study it instead of being under the gun and needing to make a decision that night. It was stated that there had clearly been a loss of time between the companies, the city’s consultants and the council. It was mentioned that the city may have to consider a new consultant since that appeared to be where the weak link in the chain was.
