Willard Resident Issues Warning about Scams in the Area

-Scammers are making their rounds in the area again.In a recent incident, a Willard resident had her information hacked by someone claiming to be from an entity called Global Support. The incident began when the resident had been having issues with her computer and was speaking with tech support from TDS. When this individual called, she believed it someone trying to continue to help her with her computer issues.
However, she discovered this person wasn’t with TDS, but claimed to be with a different company that was helping her keep her computer safe. He stated that her computer wasn’t protected from viruses and malware and tried to show her proof. In doing so, the scammer asked for a fee. At that point, she knew something was up and she said she needed to talk to her computer guy in Thorp. When she spoke to him, he said that it was a scam.
The Willard resident has since taken her computer in to be fixed and even had her credit card numbers and other items changed to be on the safe side. She wanted to bring this to people’s attention so they don’t fall victim to the same scam. She said that normally she would never fall for something like this, but because of the circumstance involving her talking to TDS earlier in the week, she thought the scammer was trying to help her.
