Unemployment Rates Rise in Wisconsin

Thursday, March 17th, 2016 -- 12:57 PM

-Unemployment rates rose in all of Wisconsin’s counties in January of 2016.

The Department of Workforce Development released preliminary unemployment rates for the first month of this year on Wednesday. Clark County had an unemployment rate of 5.7% for January 2016. That’s compared to 4.3% in December of 2015 and 5.9% compared to January of 2015. Clark County ranked 40th of Wisconsin’s 72 counties for unemployment in January compared to 42nd in December of 2015.

For our neighboring counties, Chippewa was at 6.5%, 4.4% for Eau Claire and 6.7% for Jackson. Wood County had an unemployment rate of 6.5%, 4.6% for Marathon and 6.6% for Taylor. The local rates are not seasonally adjusted, so they’re not comparable to the state unemployment rate. The state’s rate of unemployment for January was 4.6%.
