Local Cheese Makers Place at the World Championship Cheese Contest

-Wisconsin cheese makers continued to make the State of Wisconsin proud by taking home awards during the World Championship Cheese Contest held in Madison Monday through Wednesday of this week.

Many Wisconsin dairies placed in the over 110 categories that made up the championship. Nasonville Dairy of Marshfield, Foremost Farms of Marshfield, Lynn Dairy of Granton, North Hendren Cooperative of Willard, Hollands Family Cheese of Thorp, Land O’Lakes of Spencer, Welcome Dairy of Colby and Grassland Dairy Products of Greenwood all placed in different categories with some receiving first, second or third awards in the various categories including different types of cheeses, butters, milks, yogurts and more.

Some examples include Nasonville Dairy receiving a 3rd Award in Bandaged Cheddar, Mild to Medium with a score of 98.90 and Hollands Family Cheese receiving a 3rd Award in the Mild Gouda category with their Marieke Gouda Belegen and a score of 99.15. Hollands also won Best in Class with their Marieke Gouda Caraway cheese and a score of 99.25, 2nd Award with their Marieke Gouda Truffle and a score of 99.05 and 3rd Award with a score of 99 for their Marieke Gouda Burning Melange all in the same category.

Hollands also won 2nd Award in the Smoked Gouda category with their Marieke Gouda Smoked. A 2nd Award went to Land O’ Lakes in the Pasteurized Processed Cheeses category for their Swiss American Cheese with a score of 99.20. They also received a 3rd Award for their Sharp American Cheese with a score of 99.
