Two More Cases of Blood Infection Identified in Wisconsin

(AP) -Federal health officials say two more suspected cases of a deadly blood infection have been identified in Wisconsin.The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has sent additional investigators to Wisconsin to help pinpoint a link to those that have been infected by the bacteria, Elizabethkingia. Dozens of people have been ill. Most of them are elderly residents of central and southeastern Wisconsin.
The Journal Sentinel reports the two suspected cases have not been confirmed. Officials would not say whether the people were sickened or had died. As of Tuesday, the outbreak was tied to 44 confirmed cases in Wisconsin, including 18 deaths. The only known common factors in Wisconsin's outbreak are that the majority of people are 65 or older and have had serious underlying health conditions.
