-A Black River Falls inmate charged with escaping from the Black River Falls Correctional Institution in July of 2012 entered a motion to withdraw his plea in Jackson County Court on Thursday. The incident started in mid-July of 2012, when James Newman, and another inmate, James Misleveck, simply walked out the front door of the prison. During the escape, the two suspects stole a shotgun, carjacked a woman and took her hostage briefly and stole another vehicle before losing authorities in Tomah. They ended up in Florida where they beat up a store clerk and led authorities on a high speed chase before being caught and brought back to Wisconsin.
Newman and Misleveck had several charges filed against them including escaping from a detention facility, armed robbery, kidnapping and more. Back in August, Newman entered a not guilty plea by reason of mental disease/defect, but a motion was filed to withdraw that plea on Thursday. The state did not object and said the original pre-trail offer still stands. Misleveck was sentenced to a total of 35 years in prison and 21 years of extended supervision back in February of last year.
