Texas Governor Greg Abbott Helping Presidential Candidate Ted Cruz Before Tuesday's Primary

(AP) -Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz needs a big win in his home state on Super Tuesday and is leaning on his former mentor to lock in voters.Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday will join Cruz for rallies across the state. Texas is the crown jewel of 11 states holding primaries Tuesday, and Cruz can't afford losing delegates on his own turf with Donald Trump steamrolling toward the nomination.
Cruz once worked under Abbott in the Texas attorney general's office. Abbott is the only governor to endorse Cruz but lacks the national celebrity of New York Gov. Chris Christie or South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley. Christie backed Trump and Haley helped Marco Rubio finish second in her state. Cruz is banking on Abbott being a bigger draw for Texas voters.
