I-94 Construction Near Tomah

Sunday, February 28th, 2016 -- 8:42 AM

From the Wisconsin DOT:

Construction work has begun on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 near Tomah. Two lanes of traffic, one on each direction, are routed along the westbound lanes of the Interstate. Speeds are reduced to 55 miles per hour. Motorists are urged to use caution near the work zone.

The project is replacing deteriorating pavement and updating eastbound I-94 to meet current safety standards between Kirby and the US 12 bridge on the north side of Tomah. The project includes replacement of a portion of US 12 north of the Highway 21 intersection and replacement of the eastbound exit ramp at US 12 (Exit 143).

US 12 is scheduled to be closed near Destiny Avenue the evening of February 29 to remove the eastbound I-94 structure. The closure will occur 8 p.m., February 29, until 6 a.m. the following morning.

Empire Avenue is scheduled to be closed for two days beginning March 7 for the removal of the eastbound I-94 structure. Empire Avenue will be reopened until April 4 and will be closed again for 30 days to allow for the construction of the structure.

Work on US 12 near the I-94 interchange is scheduled to begin March 15. Traffic on US 12 will be crossed over to one lane in each direction.

The eastbound I-94 off-ramp is scheduled to be closed for 14 days beginning April 4 to facilitate the reconstruction of the off-ramp. Ramp traffic will be detoured using I-94 to Exit 145 and back along the westbound Interstate to Exit 143.

Construction on I-94 and US 12 is scheduled to be completed May 26. Occasional lane closures may occur in June for finishing work.
