Black River Falls Fire Department Responds to Garage Fire

-On February 23, around 5:40pm, the Black River Falls Fire Department was paged by the Jackson County Emergency Dispatch Center for structure fire located at 110 Washington Street in Black River Falls.Upon arrival the department found a single family, split level wood frame home with smoke coming from the roof peaks and eves of the attached two vehicle garage. The department contained the fire to the garage but the living area does have smoke damage.
One of the home owners, Lois Peters, was home at the time of the fire. She reported smelling some smoke and then the homes smoke detectors activated at which time she noted smoke coming into the home from around a service door into the garage area. She advised the other occupants to evacuate the house and called 911.
The fire caused an estimated $11,000 in damage and is insured. Smoking materials are the suspected fire cause. The owners and occupants of the property are Wayne and Lois Peters. There were no reported injuries to any civilians or firefighters. BRFFD was on scene for 2 hours with four units and 11 firefighters. The department used a total of 100 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.
The Black River Falls Department and Black River Utilities assisted at the scene. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.
