Total Number Of Farms In Wisconsin Down In 2015

The total number of farms in Wisconsin in 2015 was 68,900, according to new USDA figures. That's down 100 operations from the year earlier.Wisconsin Ag Connection reports The largest decrease in number of farms came in the $100,000-$249,999 range, which fell from 7,400 in 2014 to 7,300 this past year. Total land in farms in Wisconsin was 14.4 million acres, a decrease by 100,000 from a year earlier. Farms in both the $1,000-$9,999 and the $100,000-$249,000 sales classes showed a decrease of 50,000 acres from 2014.
Meanwhile, Wisconsin's average farm size in 2015 was 209 acres, down one acre from 2014. The average farm size for those in the $1,000,000 and over economic sales class was 1,511 acres, a decrease of 32 acres since 2014. The number of farms in the United States for 2015 is estimated at 2.07 million, down 18 thousand farms from 2014. Total land in farms, at 912 million acres, decreased by about a million acres from 2014. The average farm size is 441 acres, up slightly from the previous year.
