2015 Crop Year One for the Record Books

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -As expected, the 2015 crop year was one for the record books.

The Wisconsin Ag Statistics Service noted that 15 counties set record high soybean yields during the past year. Rock County led the state in production with 5.2 million bushels, followed by Dane with 4.7 million, and Dodge at 3.9 million. Grant and Lafayette Counties rounded out the top five with 3.6 million and 3.3 million, respectively.

The three southern districts averaged over 50 bushels per acre, led by the South Central District, where the average soybean yield was 53.7 bushels per acre. For corn, the South Central District was the largest producing district in Wisconsin with 118 million bushels.

And Wisconsin producers in the East Central District chopped 4.05 million tons of corn silage in 2015, representing 21 percent of the state's total. The South Central District produced 3.07 million tons of silage. Dane county was the top corn silage producing county in Wisconsin with 1.13 million tons of corn silage produced. Marathon, Brown, Clark, and Shawano rounded out the top five. Dane County also had the highest average yield, at 25.0 tons per acre.
