DNA Match in 2008 Murder of Marshfield Teen

Wednesday, February 17th, 2016 -- 10:20 AM

(WSAW) -The family of of Marshfield high student killed in 2008 at her Madison apartment confirms a DNA match related to the homicide investigation.

According to WSAW, Kevin and Jean Zimmermann, parents of 21-year-old Brittany Zimmermann, state that while there is a DNA match in their daughter's case, they will not release the name because the district attorney's office is not ready to file charges against him. Zimmermann was stabbed to death in her Madison apartment on Doty Street on April 2, 2008.

Madison police Chief Mike Koval tells WISC-TV in a statement Tuesday that the case is still open and resources are still being used in finding Brittany's killer. Kevin and Jean Zimmermann said there is still a $40,000 reward for anyone who provides information in the case that leads to an arrest and conviction.

The Zimmermann case inspired a policy change at the Dane County 911 Center after Brittany's death. On the day of her death, her 911 call was cut off after the operator didn't hear sounds that constituted an emergency. When police officers arrived 48 minutes later, Zimmerman was found dead. The Zimmermanns said they're not looking for any type of closure because their "hearts are irreversibly broken," but they do want to find justice for Brittany.
