Loyal's Main Street Construction Project Coming Summer of 2017, Final

-Members of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Gremmer and Associates, Inc. and the City of Loyal were present Thursday night to discuss the construction project happening in Loyal in the summer of 2017.After the initial presentation, residents present were able to ask question for the representatives that were present. There was a question about water, if and when it would be shut off. The residents were assured that they would have water 98% of the time during this project. There were also several questions about water laterals to homes. The department said they will replace any news laterals up to the right-of-way. Laterals at homes would have to be replaced on the homeowner's dime. However, they did mention that when they're doing the hook up, the department will check and make sure the laterals at the homes are working properly.
There were also questions about trees, manhole covers and high lines. The department said that some trees will have to be removed, there won't be manhole covers all over the road like there are in some communities and the high lines will not be buried, that is a utility issue. Another item brought up that caused some murmurs of disagreement was city sidewalks. The sidewalks will be replaced in this project. The department plans on using good concrete, 4 inches thick, at a discount, $5 per square foot, to replace the sidewalks and it would be under a yearlong warranty. Residents agreed that the job was not done well the last time sidewalks were replaced. As for the cost, the DOT would go 50/50 with the City of Loyal and, in return, the city would go 25/25 with its residents that are affected. However, Loyal's Mayor said they are still working that out and nothing is set in stone.
