Police Report at Owen City Council Meeting

-The Owen City Council heard the Police Report at their meeting on Tuesday of last week.Owen Police Chief Andrew Schade reported that there was another drug arrest. The Department has been awarded a DOT grant of $4,000 and $1,000 match by the City. He proposes to use the money in cooperation with Public Works, safety cones, 2 hand held radio units and new taser audio video for car and body.
The council also approved to table the issue of hiring Legal Services to do all new Police Policies until more information is received. The cost was cut down from $1,600 to $990. Area Police Departments are also participating in the program called Lexipol. The cost would come out of the Police Operating Budget.
During the public opinion portion of the meeting, an alderperson reported that the City owned shed behind Dr. Gelhaus Dental Office needs repairs as a spooked horse with a buggy pulled and ripped the metal siding which cut the horse and the horse had to be put down. Finally, the council approved the Property Insurance Proposal from Municipal Property Insurance Company for $12,903 for the term 3/1/16 to 3/1/17.
