I.D. Required to Vote in Next Week's Primary
Thursday, February 11th, 2016 -- 11:30 AM
-The Spring Primary Elections are being held next week on Tuesday, February 16th and you do need a valid I.D. to vote.To answer some frequently asked questions, there isn't a separate Voter I.D. card. There are many current and existing I.D.s that you can use, your driver's license being one example. When a poll worker looks at your I.D., they'll be looking for your photograph, you name and an expiration date. Certain forms of acceptable I.D. needs to be issued within a certain timeframe to be used for voting purposes. For example, a driver's license receipt must be valid for 45days from the date issued in order to be used. Your address on your I.D. does not need to be current.
The following I.D.s will not be accepted at the polls including a Military Veteran Affairs I.D., a State or Federal government employee I.D.s, an out-of-state driver license or identification card, an employment I.D.s, a member or organization I.D. and a Certificate of Citizenship. There are two I.D.s that can be used for voting that don't have a picture and they are a citation or notice of intent to revoke or suspend a driver license dated within 60 days of the election and a State of Wisconsin DOT issued identification card without a photo.
Finally, the following people don't need to provide a photo I.D. including confidential electors, active military and permanent overseas voters and indefinitely confined voters and voters in special care facilities.
