Neillsville Chamber of Commerce Annual Recognition Banquet, Part 7

Tuesday, February 9th, 2016 -- 11:52 AM

-The Neillsville Chamber of Commerce held their Recognition Banquet at the Neillsville American Legion recently.

The winner of the Volunteer of the Year Award was Roni Kaczor-Smith. Deanna Heiman, the award presenter, went over the long list of items that Roni is involved with.

"For the Volunteer of the Year Award, we're honoring another life long educator. After 38 years in the classroom, Roni Kaczor-Smith continues to take on substitute teaching positions in area school districts. All though she will fondly be remembered by some for her dedication to students and her colorful, creative classroom projects, there are countless organizations who owe her a debt of gratitude for her service."

"The first organization on that list is the Chamber. Roni is a long term board member, she has volunteered at many events and displayed her decorating expertise many times for our annual banquet. Roni serves as a secretary for many organizations including the Wisconsin Food Stamp club, the local and district Optimist Club, MMC Partners, the Legion Auxiliary, two Wisconsin based camping groups and the Jackson County Area Educators."

"Music plays an important role in Roni's life. She serves as a state music director and UCC's hand bell choir director. Roni is a member of the Clark County Choraliers and participates in the Marshfield Palm Sunday Chorus. She is a member of the World Day of Prayer Committee as well as a volunteer at the House of the Dove and the American Legion. Regardless of how busy she is with all these activities, it doesn't prevent Roni from spending time with her three granddaughters. We honor her tonight for her willingness to serve, her kindness and compassion and the selfless sharing of her time and talent."

Roni was very honored to receive this award.

"I want to thank the chamber. I keep telling them that I don't want any of this stuff because I don't do anything! Kathy Mathis always says many hands make life work and that's exactly what happened today. There were many hands to put this all together. I have ideas. I have a hard time shutting my head off at night. I got a lot of ideas, but it is everybody else that helps out. Anyway, thank you very much. It's an honor!"

Coming up on Wednesday, we'll hear from the Reed School which celebrated its 100th Anniversary in 2015.
