Marshfield Teen Sentenced for Throwing a Knife at Two Boys

Tuesday, February 9th, 2016 -- 9:17 AM

-A Marshfield teen was sentenced for throwing a knife at two young boys over an argument about a video game.

According to court records, 17-year-old Cyrus Kohel was playing video games with a 10 and 12-year-old boy when the 12-year-old started calling him names. Kohel got angry and began to hit the 12-year-old in the face and stomach repeatedly. They went back to playing games after the incident, but the young boys wouldn't follow Kohel's directions, so he went to the kitchen, got a knife and lunged at the boys. He then threw it at them, barely missing them. The boys fled into a bedroom, locked the door and called police.

Kohel was arrested and was initially charged with child abuse and two counts of 1st degree recklessly endangering safety. However, those charges were amended to misdemeanor counts of endangering safety with the use of a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct and battery. He pleaded guilty to all three counts. He was sentenced to 2 years' probation, he owes the courts $528, must receive any counseling deemed necessary, he can have no abusive contact with the victims, must maintain full time school or employment and if he completes probation successfully, he can have this incident expunged from his record.
