Dorchester Man Has Charges Dropped for Killing Puppies

Saturday, February 6th, 2016 -- 7:49 AM

A Dorchester man charged in Marathon County Court for killing eight, three-day old puppies with a sledgehammer had the charges against him dropped.

According to investigators, the incident happened on August 9th in the Town of Holton. The puppies were the offspring of Terrence Seubert's Blue Heeler. Seubert said he distracted the dog with food, put the puppies in a bucket and dropped the sledgehammer on them. He also said he placed them in a bucket of water for 20 minutes before burying them. He stated that he did it because he didn't want any more dogs around.

According to court records, a motion to dismiss the charges was filed stating that the prosecution had to prove that Seubert's actions cause "needless suffering" to the puppies, but they could not contend the deaths themselves as needless. The prosecutor wrote that "Further prosecution of this matter is not possible at this time because there is insufficient evidence to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt."

If convicted and sentenced to the maximum amount, Seubert could have spent 28 years in prison for the killings.
