School District of Greenwood Holds Meeting on Spring Referendum, Part 1

Thursday, February 4th, 2016 -- 10:24 AM

-Around 40 people turned out for the School District of Greenwood's first meeting on their proposed referendum for the spring elections in April.

Like many school districts in Clark County and around the state, Greenwood is asking its voters to approve a referendum to maintain its current 4K-12 programs. Due to state imposed revenue limits and declining state aid, it has made it very difficult for school districts, including Greenwood, to keep up with rising costs of providing students with a quality education.

The district will be asking its voters for $850,000 for the 2016-17 school year and $750,000 for the 2017-18 school year through the 2020-21 school year. The reason behind the first year being bigger then the next four is because the district has some maintenance issues they'd like to address including roofing, flooring and more, it will help provide a more consistent mil rate for taxpayers and the would like to upgrade their tech ed. equipment so it is more in line with equipment used by today's companies.

Greenwood will be holding another meeting on Tuesday, February 23rd at the Athletic Club in Willard starting at 6:30pm. There may be other meetings before the election as well. Coming up Friday, we'll hear about more of the numbers regarding the Greenwood School District and the referendum.
