Time for Girl Scout Cookies, Part 2
Wednesday, January 20th, 2016 -- 10:49 AM
-For many people, one of the best times of year is hear again.Girl Scouts will begin selling their cookies this Friday. I spoke with Melissa Loest, Communications Coordinator with Girl Scouts, about the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Melissa talked about a new method of selling cookies that was implemented last year.
Melissa: "For the second year, Girl Scouts are able to choose to sell cookies online. And they way they do that is through a platform called Digital Cookie. This does not replace the tried and true door to door order taking and cookie booths. It's an enhancement. So that way, a girl who has a grandparents that lives far away, she can still ask her grandparents to buy cookies from her and they can buy them through Digital Cookie and then they get shipped directly to the door of the buyer. And that just adds a way for the girls to sell to those far away."
"Like I said, this is not to replace door to door order taking. It's just to enhance the experience. It expands those five skills so it will allow them to learn online marketing, website customization and e-commerce. And again, the girls are still in charge of this. It allows them to contact customers via e-mail and it's a safe and secure platform, so girls and parents don't have to worry about using this platform. It allows them to sell safely because they actually have to send a link to their friends and family and if the link is broken, it just doesn't work."
Coming up on Thursday, Melissa will talk about all the delicious cookie flavors.
