Neillsville School Board Approves Resolution to Apply for FAB LAB Grant

Tuesday, January 19th, 2016 -- 9:31 AM

-The Neillsville School Board approved a resolution to compete for a Fabrication LAB Grant for the next school year.

The purpose of this grant, promoted by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, would allow school districts to update their Tech Ed. labs. Most school districts are using equipment that's well over 60 years old. It was stated that it's hard for students to be ready for today's manufacturing positions when the machinery they're using is older than the modern equipment of local manufacturing plants.

This grant would provide $25,000 for 3 years. It is a matching grant, so $25,000 would need to be provided from the district's general budget, giving them $50,000 per year to spend on new equipment, computers and training. That money would help pay for the estimated $193,000 in upgrades and training at the Neillsville School District. If this grant is approved, the preparations would begin within the next school year, with training happening in the summer of 2017.
