Security Health Plan Reminds Consumer of Health Care Sign Up Deadline
Sunday, January 17th, 2016 -- 6:54 AM
-With less than three weeks left to purchase 2016 health care coverage, Security Health Plan wants to remind consumers that it's not too late to get high-quality health care coverage, and procrastination could be especially costly this year.About 220,000 Wisconsinites have purchased coverage through the Marketplace during the current enrollment period. Anderson expects that number will grow as the deadline nears. One reason there may be a late rush is the tax penalty for being uninsured. The Kaiser Family Foundation reports the average fine for not having insurance will rise to $969 per household in 2016. That is a 50 percent increase from 2015. In fact, the Foundation reported that many families may find their insurance costs will be less than the tax penalty.
Only insurance companies such as Security Health Plan that have been approved as a Qualified Health Plan, are eligible to offer coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace. And purchasing coverage through the Marketplace is the only way people can receive a tax credit to help meet their premium costs.
