Marshfield Teens Accused of Sexual Assault Appear in Wood County Court for a Motion Hearing

-Two Marshfield teens accused of sexual assault appeared in Wood County Court on Friday morning for a motion hearing.Kyle Howlett and Ryan Rodeghier had 2nd degree sexual assault of a child charges filed against them in two separate cases as they are accused of sexually assaulting a 14 year-old girl on multiple occasions. Most of the motions were granted and involved minor items in regards to evidence and bond.
A couple bigger motions brought forth were a motion to separate the cases instead of having both boys tried at the same time due to a confession given by one of the boys. This requires that case to be tried first and the others will move forward from there. Another motion was to include a bill of particulars. The defense was asking for a more specific time frame as to when the alleged assaults occurred as the victim stated that it was early spring, sometime between March and May. The defense wanted this information to prepare a better case, but the state argued that the time frame was specific enough. The judge agreed so the motion was denied.
Howlett and Rodeghier are scheduled for a jury trial towards the end of February. A third teen was charged with child sexual exploitation in this case as he was accused of filming the assaults. However, the Wood County Assistant District Attorney had the case dismissed stating he would have a hard time proving the teen's involvement with it.
