Former Neillsville Resident Sentenced for Repeated Sexual Assault of a Child

Tuesday, January 12th, 2016 -- 12:35 PM

-A former Neillsville resident appeared in Clark County Court on Monday and was sentenced for the repeated sexual assault and abuse of his step-daughter.

According to the criminal complaint, the defendant, who was married to the girl's mother from March 2004 until February 2008, began sexually assaulting the victim when they were living in Alma Center in Jackson County. The assaults began in July of 2005 and continued until October of 2007. The girl was just 5 years old at the time and the incidents would occur while the girl's mother was at work.

The family then moved to Neillsville in February of 2007 and lived there until October of 2007 and the assaults continued. The man continually threatened the girl while the assaults occurred, saying he would kill her if she told anyone. The girl's mother eventually kicked the defendant out of the home in October 2007 and divorced him in February 2008. She kicked him out of the house for unrelated reasons and didn't know about the sexual assaults until her daughter told her later on. The victim and her mother came forward in January of 2014 to report what had happened.

Back in September, the defendant entered a no contest plea to the charge against him and was found guilty. The Clark County District Attorney requested 20 years in prison and 7-10 years of extended supervision to run consecutive to the 25 years he's serving in Jackson County for the same crime. The defense asked for 5 years in prison and 5 years of extended supervision to run concurrent to the Jackson County sentence. In the end, the judge sentenced him to 30 years in prison and 10 years of extended supervision which will run concurrent to the Jackson County sentence. That means, the defendant will serve an additional 5 years in prison after his sentence in Jackson County is complete. He must also register as a sex offender, pay restitution, have no contact with the victim or family and more.

**Please note, all though this has be stated before, we would like to reiterate that due to the sensitive nature of this case, Central Wisconsin Broadcasting WILL NOT release the name of the defendant in order to further protect the victim even though it is a matter of public record.**
