(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -The USDA has designated Langlade, Lincoln and Marathon counties as primary natural disaster areas due to damages and losses caused by a late frost and freeze that occurred last May and June.U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says farmers in contiguous counties also qualify for natural disaster assistance, including Clark, Forest, Menominee, Oconto, Oneida, Portage, Price, Shawano, Taylor, Waupaca, and Wood. Each of those areas were designated natural disaster areas this week, making all qualified farm operators eligible for low interest emergency loans from the Farm Service Agency.
Other FSA programs that can provide assistance, but do not require a disaster declaration, include the Emergency Conservation Program; Livestock Forage Disaster Program; Livestock Indemnity Program; Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees, and Farm-Raised Fish Program; and the Tree Assistance Program. Interested farmers may contact their local USDA Service Centers for further information on eligibility requirements and application procedures for these and other programs.
