(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -The Wysocki Family of Companies announced last week that it has purchased nearly 7,000 acres of farmland in Wood County, where it plans to construct the proposed Golden Sands Dairy. The farm would house 4,000 milking cows, 300 heifers and a thousand calves in the town of Saratoga. The property had been owned by a timber company. The Wysockis first unveiled plans for the dairy in June 2012, but faced resistance from the beginning from neighbors who feared their drinking water could become contaminated by the farm's manure.
That led to a lawsuit between the town board and the farm, which Wysocki won. However, nearby residents are still trying to appeal the decision on whether the farm should be granted the necessary building and operating permits. The Wysocki Family also owns the Central Sands Dairy in Adams County and an 8,400-acre potato and vegetable operation in Portage County.
