Bills Proposed To Improve Tracking Crime In Public Schools

Thursday, December 31st, 2015 -- 11:25 AM

Wisconsin Republicans have proposed bills to improve tracking crime and student safety incidents in public schools.

The Beloit Daily News reports Sen. Mary Lazich and Rep. Ken Skowronski's bill would implement the tracking program in one urban district, one suburban district and one rural school. The measure hasn't been formally introduced yet.

Republican Rep. John Jagler, meanwhile, has proposed a bill requiring information on state Department of Public Instruction school report cards about crimes committed at all schools, school events and school buses. A report from the National Center for Education Statistics and the Bureau of Justice Systems for 2011-2012 found 11.3 percent of Wisonsin teachers reported their students had physically attacked them.
