-A Neillsville woman charged with animal neglect made an appearance in Clark County Court on Monday.Back in August, authorities received a report of animals running at large on a farm near Neillsville. They discovered that the animals were without water in 90 degree heat and humidity. After obtaining a search warrant, authorities returned and discovered over 43 dogs living in deplorable conditions in the home. They also removed 6 horses who were underfed and in poor medical condition.
Carolyn Christie has been charged with 26 counts in relation to this incident including intentionally mistreating animals. She appeared in court on Monday for an initial appearance, which had been pushed back several times as she tried to find a lawyer. On Monday, she stated that she lost her job and is still looking for a lawyer, but she stood mute in regards to the charges against her. The judge entered a not guilty plea on her behalf. She'll be back in court in a couple weeks.
Christie has a $2,000 signature bond and she is not allowed to possess any animals except for some horses that are still there. She must also allow law enforcement to come to her home at any time and check on the remaining horses and make sure she doesn't have any others.
