Wisconsin Legislators Put Forth Bills on Crimes Committed on School Grounds

(AP) -Wisconsin legislators are putting forth bills that would require data about crimes committed on school grounds to be more readily available for parents and others to view alongside test scores and graduation rates. One bill calls for all public high schools, as well as those in the voucher and charter school programs, to report crime data for inclusion in the state report card. A competing proposal seeks a limited pilot program with reporting from one urban, one rural and one suburban school district.
The push for a statewide law comes on the heels of the voucher program expanding and the lifting of enrollment caps. Advocates of the school choice program have used crime data to persuade students to transfer to what they consider to be safer voucher or charter schools.
