Most Clark County Retailers Pass Wisconsin WINS Compliance Check, Part 3
Tuesday, November 10th, 2015 -- 11:56 AM
-Many Clark County retailers passed a recent Wisconsin WINS compliance check.Rebecca Rosandick, the Public Health Specialist/Health Educator with the Clark County Health Department, talked about the benefits of these retailers passing the check.
"It means that they are not selling to minors. Which is great because we want to keep our youth healthy and free of tobacco products. Studies show that the younger that you are exposed to tobacco, the more likely you are to continue the habit for the rest of your life. We just want to make sure that our retailers are following state laws in the county, but we also want to concentrate on rewarding them too."
She also mentioned a website retailers can go to for training in regards to Wisconsin's tobacco sales law.
"So, there is actually a website and it is free. It is called smokecheck.org and it provides free state approved retailer training in Wisconsin on tobacco sales laws. And it includes a study guide, a quiz and, ultimately, a certificate of completion. Once trained, employees will know how to not sell tobacco to minors. And it can help retailers, ultimately, avoid license suspension and fines. And, even better, by knowing and following the rules it can help Wisconsin become tobacco free."
Coming up on Wednesday, Rebecca will explain how the minor in this compliance check was selected.
