Well Water Testing Opportunity for Clark County Residents, Part 2
Monday, November 9th, 2015 -- 1:09 PM
-Clark County residents have a fantastic opportunity, provided by the Clark County UW-Extension Office, to have their water tested at a reduced cost. The department will be offering water testing to county residents so you can know what's in your well water. Melissa Kono, CNRED Agent for Clark County, explained that people shouldn't be worried about what they may find in their water if they do the test.
"One, we want to be able to identify if there's E-Coli in wells which can happen. And I think that there's this fear people have that if they test their water, and find something, they wonder how they can afford to address it. And if it's certain types of bacteria, there's a relatively affordable fix for that. They bleach the system and things like that. It's a very typical problem."
"But, you know, I would say why would you not want to know? I guess, what you do with it is up to you, but at least you know and you can make other arrangements to buy drinking water or certainly not let small children or people with compromised immune system drink that water. I just think that you would want to know."
"Having lots of wells tested is good because sometimes we can identify clusters of concern. If there's a couple wells in one area and they all test positive for E-Coli we might have a larger problem that just needs to be addressed."
Coming up on Tuesday, Melissa will talk about the cost of the test and an education seminar you can attend to help explain your results.
