Most Clark County Retailers Pass Wisconsin WINS Compliance Check, Part 1

Saturday, November 7th, 2015 -- 6:57 AM

-Many Clark County retailers passed a recent Wisconsin WINS compliance check.

Rebecca Rosandick, the Public Health Specialist/Health Educator with the Clark County Health Department, explained what the WINS Program is, it's history and purpose.

"Wisconsin WINS is one way to combat tobacco sales in Clark County and in the state. It is sponsored through the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. It was first introduced in 2001 in an attempt to decrease the access of tobacco products to minors and it's been going ever since."

"So, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services contracts local partners, such as Clark County and other counties, and tobacco compliance checks are conducted. There's also media outreach and retailer and community education that happens. And then this program is currently in all 72 counties."

"And the main focus of the Wisconsin WINS program is to reduce the rate of illegal tobacco sales to minors at any locations. So, any and all locations meaning taverns, restaurants, resorts, convenience stores, grocery stores, pretty much anywhere that would be able to purchase tobacco products."

Coming up on Monday, we'll hear about the local retailers that passed the compliance check.
