Wisconsin Cheese Production Up for 13th Consecutive Month

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -For the 13th consecutive month, Wisconsin's dairy plants churned out more cheese products during September than they did a year prior.The latest dairy product summary by USDA notes that factories in the Dairy State produced 249.5 million pounds of cheese in September--which was up 3.2 percent from September 2014, but one percent less than this past August (which had an extra day on the calendar).
Nationally, 956 million pounds of cheese was produced in the United States. That was 2.4 percent more than the same month last year, but 2.3 percent below the previous month's production totals. Dry Whey output in Wisconsin was recorded at 24.4 million pounds, which was up 15.5 percent from last year, but 6.1 percent lower from last month.
