Neillsville City Council Approves Vicious Dogs Ordinance
Wednesday, October 28th, 2015 -- 11:51 AM
-The Neillsville City Council approved the revised vicious dogs ordinance at their meeting on Tuesday. The council had been discussing this ordinance at the past couple meetings, but made changes to the wording to be more clear on a few different aspects of it. Put simply, this ordinance now states that if a dog bites someone in the city and it's reported, the Neillsville Police Department will determine if the dog is vicious.
If that ruling is made, the owner must remove the dog form the city within 5 days. The owner has 5 days to remove the dog or file an appeal to the common council. If neither of those things is done, the Neillsville Police Department does have the authority to remove the dog. If an appeal is filed, the common council will determine whether or not the dog is vicious and if it can stay in the city.
This ordinance brought some heated debate to the previous two Common Council meetings, but passed with no further resistance at the meeting on Tuesday.
