-A woman charged with the death of a Neillsville man was sentenced for the crime in Jackson County Court on Friday.Randi Rupnow was charged with homicide by negligent driving as she's accused of turning into the path of a motorcycle, driven by 28-year-old Jesse Rauk of Neillsville, on Highway 12/27 in the Town of Adams back in October of 2012. Interviewed witnesses initially told authorities that Rauk was traveling well above the speed limit and he collided with Rupnow when she turned into a private driveway. Rupnow said she never saw the motorcycle. After an investigation, authorities determined that the road was flat, there was an excellent sight line and the crash was caused by Rupnow's decision to turn into the path of the motorcycle.
Rupnow was found guilty at a jury trial back in September. Rupnow was sentenced to 5 years' probation. She was also sentenced to jail time on the 4th weekend of each October, from 6pm Friday to 6pm Sunday, starting this month and continuing for the next 5 years. She also had her driver's license revoked for a year, she must pay restitution, she can have no contact with the victim's family and she may also have to travel to schools to tell her story to students.
