Spencer Woman Sentenced for Murder-for-Hire Plot

Friday, October 9th, 2015 -- 6:00 PM

-A Spencer woman found guilty of trying to hire someone to kill two people has been sentenced for the incident.

According to the Clark County Sheriff's Department, Shari Klimmer and Porscha Rizzi tried to hire someone to kill the fathers of Rizzi's two children. According to testimony from detectives and investigators with the Clark County Sheriff's Department, both Klimmer and Rizzi approached two different individuals about trying to kill the fathers of Rizzi's two children. The women provided photos, addresses and vehicle descriptions of the two men. The two individuals they approached came forward because they said the women seemed very serious and were afraid someone would get hurt.

Rizzi pleaded guilty to one charge of conspiracy to committee 1st degree intentional homicide back in July. A 2nd charge was dismissed and read in. Another case, in which Rizzi was charged for breaking conditions of her bond, was dismissed and read in. During the sentencing hearing, the Clark County District Attorney read a letter from one of the intended victims, stating how scared he and his family is because of this attempt. The DA went on to say that, although Rizzir doesn't have much court history, she knew what she was doing. She asked for 15-18 years in jail with 7-10 years of extended supervision. She also asked for no contact with the intended victims, their families, her co-defendant and her children unless a family court orders she can.

The defense attorney admitted that the crime was serious, but felt that a longer period of supervision would be better than a long period of jail time. He said that she wasn't a danger to society and could be rehabilitated. Rizzi apologized for what she did and said she was thankful it stopped. She said she'd take responsibility for her actions.

The judge said that she committed a heinous crime and in the end, he sentenced Klimmer to 7 years in prison with 10 years of extended supervision. He also granted the no contact request the DA asked for. Klimmer, the co-defendant, was sentenced to 7 years in prison and 9 years of extended supervision back in August. Rizzi's grandmother is also facing charges for helping break conditions of her bond and no court date has been set at this time.
