4-H Week October 4th-10th, Part 1
Monday, October 5th, 2015 -- 1:51 PM
-This week is 4-H week.I spoke with Chris Holler, the Clark County 4-H Advisor, and she talked about the many things people and students can do if they're involved with 4-H.
Chris said, "First, people can get involved all year! It's like Christmas. We just take this little snippet to really showcase 4-H, but all the work and pieces go on throughout the year. The first thing is that people can connect with their local clubs. Just to kinda see if that's a good fit for them."
"What I've been telling people about 4-H is that the way 4-H works is that you have to be involved to make it work. And some of the skills that youth gain from being involved and actually participating in things is character, development, confidence and communication skills. And, again, that requires parents kind of pushing and kids are kind of tugging, but also taking the leap and wanting do different things."
"What we're working on right now, as we lead up to 2016, is the time that youth need to be thinking about where they want to go next summer. Because with 4-H, what I like to say, is that we stay local, but we go worldwide. And we can because we have international programs. But if you are looking for next summer, youth can go on an inter-state exchange trip which we had some of our youth go up to Delaware this summer. And the Delaware folks asked us if we want to come back out again! But we said, no this year you come to us and then will think about going back out to you. But first you need to come to us here and see Neillsville, Wisconsin and Clark County and what we have to offer in this part of the world!"
We'll have more from Chris on the county 4-H program throughout the week.
