The Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation released its latest Marketbasket Survey on Tuesday, which showed that the average price of 16 basic food items in 26 communities totaled $53.37 during the past six months of 2015.That was up $1.41 from the previous survey in March, which now comes out twice annually, and $1.40 more than this time a year ago.
WFBF Spokesman Casey Langan says of the items surveyed, seven decreased in price, while eight rose in value since the spring survey; with a dozen large Grade A eggs seeing the largest percentage jump at 72 percent to total $2.94 a dozen. Prices also continue to go up at the meat counter. The cost of bacon and ham rose along with boneless chicken breast, the survey noted. Apples were the one staple item that remained the same.
Meanwhile, Wisconsin's marketbasket report rang up less than the American Farm Bureau Federation's national survey of the same 16 food items. That summary totaled $54.14.
A handful of communities were surveyed including Appleton, Beloit, Kewaunee, Lodi, Manawa, Medford, Plover, Sparta, Stanley, Union Grove, West Bend and more
