Changes to City Ordinance Regarding Parking on 5th Street by the School District Approved by Neillsville City Council

-The Neillsville City Council approved having the city attorney begin writing a new ordinance in regards to parking along the north side of the school district on 5th Street. The Neillsville Police Department had been receiving reports of parking and safety issues on 5th Street in the mornings and afternoons when kids are being dropped off and picked up. Neillsville Police Chief Scott Klueckmann sat in the area one day to observe the scene first hand and stated that it's a miracle someone hasn't gotten hurt.
The Chief noticed kids running in between vehicles, the street is narrowed making it harder for vehicle to get through, people are parking in no parking zones where signs clearly state there's no parking during specific times, people speeding and several close calls of crashes and people getting hit.
The change of the ordinance, and signage, will make it illegal for people to park on East 5th Street between 7am-9am and 2pm-4pm. Chief Klueckmann stated that at first, after the change, they'll just administer warnings, but if the acts continue, they will begin handing out tickets. This same issue was brought up by Neillsville District Administrator John Gaier during their School Board meeting last week.
