(WEAU) -A fire at an asphalt plant may have caused more than a quarter-million dollars in damage.According to WEAU, the fire happened late Wednesday afternoon on Pierce Road, which is northeast of Black River Falls. The Black River Falls Fire Department received a report of a fire, and found the flames near an oil furnace at the portable asphalt plant, which was in the Kraemer Company gravel pit. Firefighters put it out.
Workers at the plant had moved a truck with a large liquid propane tank, which is used to fuel part of the plant, away from the fire. 100 gallons of diesel fuel ended up leaking from a fuel tank. The paving company built a gravel dike to keep the fuel and water runoff away from a waterway nearby.
There's no immediate word on what caused the fire. No injuries were reported. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was called in because of the fuel spill. The plant owner is arranging to clean it up.
