-A Neillsville woman charged with animal neglect made her first appearance in Clark County Court on Wednesday.Back in August, authorities received a report of animals running at large on a farm near Neillsville. They discovered that the animals were without water in 90 degree heat and humidity. After obtaining a search warrant, authorities returned and discovered over 43 dogs living in deplorable conditions in the home. They also removed 6 horses who were underfed and in poor medical condition.
Carolyn Christie has been charged with 26 counts in relation to this incident including intentionally mistreating animals. She appeared in court on Wednesday for an initial appearance, but it was adjourned so she could get a court appointed lawyer. However, the judge did set a $2,000 signature bond and she is not allowed to possess any animals except for some horses that are still there. She must also allow law enforcement to come to her home at any time and check on the remaining horses and make sure she doesn't have any others.
