-The defense attorney for a Marshfield man accused of sexually assaulting a child is trying to get the charges against his client dropped. The victim in this incident, 25-years-old today, told authorities that in 1999, at 11-years-old, she worked at the Park View Pet Motel. She told authorities that on numerous occasions the owner, Ray Poeppel who's 84 today, would sit down behind her and inappropriately touch her.
Poeppel is being charged with repeated sexual assault of a child and he has pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was scheduled for a jury trial yesterday, but a motion hearing has now been scheduled for September 30th. The motion is to dismiss the charges due to, according to court records, specific instances of conduct bearing on untruthfulness of the victim.
Poeppel is currently free on a $5,000 signature bond and if convicted and sentenced to the maximum amount, he could spend 40 years in prison.
