Rock To Compete In World Powerlifting Championships
Tuesday, September 15th, 2015 -- 12:45 PM
David Rock of Stratford is competing in the 2015 GPC World Powerlifting Championships in Las Vegas on Wednesday.GPC is the international affiliate of the SPF or Southern Powerlifting Federation.
Over 40 countries will be competing and this is the first time that the World Championships have been held in the United States.
Rock was pretty lucky in getting a chance to compete in the World Championships. Technically you need to take a 1st or 2nd in any SPF meet to qualify, but unfortunately with Rock living in Wisconsin, all the SPF meets are at least 15 hours away.
The nearest meet he could qualify at was in Cincinnati but David could not afford it so he talked with the owner of the SPF to ask how he could qualify for the Worlds. Rock was lucky that the owner thought that his total that he put up in a previous meet and the owner thought that would enough for David to attend the Worlds.
Rock has trained specifically for powerlifting with his coach, Kevin Grap for 4 years. For the Worlds in particular, he has trained for 12 weeks straight.
At the Worlds, Rock will get three attempts at a squat, three attempts at a bench and three attempts at a dead lift. You take the best of each and total them up for your score.
Rock will be competing on Wednesday in Vegas.
Teams that stand out to David from around the world are from Russia, Great Britian, and the Ukraine.
