Black River Falls Man Sentenced for Starting a Fire in an Apartment

A Black River Falls man who started a fire in an apartment above a bar appeared in Jackson County Court on Monday.
According to court records, Joseph Berg called the authorities and stated he started a fire in his apartment above the bar. When they arrived, they saw smoke coming from underneath the door of the apartment.
When they got inside, they found a burning chair against the door. Berg was located on the roof of the building and he told authorities he was dealing with some mental issues.
During Berg’s court appearance on Monday, he pleaded guilty to 1st-degree recklessly endangering safety. Three other charges were dismissed and read in. He was sentenced to 3 years of probation.
